Lil Extreme Blog: Day 1

Today was the first of five days of “Lil’ Extreme” which is a sports and art camp for children ages 6-12. The camp runs from noon to four and is packed with games, crafts, praise and worship, Bible lessons, skits, and a lot of other fun activities.

The staff for the camp is made up of people from the church congregation. The majority of the staff is from the church youth group. However, there are also a lot of other people from the church congregation from the college age group all the way to the senior saints.

The schedule of the camp is as follows:. First the kids come and get checked in and assigned to their teams. The teams are broken up into ages and assigned a color. There are four group leaders on each team who stay with their color team the entire day from start to finish. Also there are adopters which are other staff members who are performing specific tasks throughout the day but serve as leaders for the different teams when they are not otherwise occupied. After checking in, lunch is the first thing on the agenda. The different teams are seated and the team leaders bring all the food and drinks to their team to cut down on the traffic of people going and coming from the kitchen area to where the kids are sitting.

Next the children have a choice of activities. They can either do a craft, play sports outside, or play games in the parsonage. The different groups rotate through the activities. After that, the children meet back in the sanctuary of the church and sing songs, have a Bible lesson, and then meet in small groups with their group leaders. These activities end the day and after this the children are dismissed.

The first day of “Lil Extreme” 72 kids showed up, most of whom had no prior contact with our church. One child accepted Christ as their Savior. I know that the staff is very excited about what God can do these next few days in the lives of all these children. We know and feel the support of God’s people in the church and look forward to sharing more in the upcoming days.

Lil Extreme Blog: Day 3

Today we started the day just like we did monday and tuesday by getting to the church early to get ready for the kids to come. Then as the kids began to arrive we took them into the sunday school rooms to play games such as hot-hoops, connect four, and checkers. Then it was a very special time of the day. LUNCH TIME!! We took the kids in and seated them by team color. Then we served them their food and drinks. While they were eating we talked about stuff like what they had done last night and yesterdays lesson.

After lunch we had all the kids come into the sanctuary to do games, fun dancing, and also to see a skit about faith. The skit showed a basketball game where the player were losing by alot but believed they could win and ended up winning on a last second shot because they had faith.

Following another song we dismissed the kids. P.S. we had 78 kids today praise God. They went to one of the four stations karate, game room, kickball, or a craft where they made rainbow mobile things. The kids enjoyed doing all of these things.

After the 4 teams had been to each of the four stations, we headed back into the sanctuary to sing more songs, listen to a lesson, and have some discussion with the kids. The lesson today was on a man that Jesus healed in Capernaum. This man was a paralytic and had come to Jesus with the help of his great friends who had to lower him through the roof of a house to get him to Jesus. Subsequently we heard from a man who told the same story through a really neat painting. Then we broke up into small groups of about 5 including a leader and talked about the lesson and what the kids had learned. Once the discussion was over we sang a song and the kids got snacks and were picked up.

Lil’ Extreme Blog: Day 4

Today started out just like all the other days with games and then lunch little did the kids know today was going to be a very special day! So the dancing, singing, and skit at the beginning went really well it was so encouraging to see all the kids jumpin around praising Jesus!!

When we dismissed into the separate areas the blue team stayed in the sanctuary to do karate. P.S. Karate for Christ is Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 – 8:30 at the church. We learned that it’s not good to tense up when we do things but we need to relax and rely on God even when we’re doing difficult things. We read Psalm 46:10 which says

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Then we saw Brian break a CYDERBLOCK but not by tightening up but by relaxing and relying on God to help him.

After Karate we went and did the Cha-Cha slide which was alot of fun! Then we made little awesome lady bug magnets with attena and everything! Then finally one part of this special day came around we handed out the kids T-shirts after we did a fun obstacle course. The kids went running to to put their shirts on!

Once they all had their shirts on we were ready to go back into the sanctuary and listen to another great lesson. Today it was about Jesus. And how He had to die so that we could be forgiven of our sins and feel clean. Then we saw a painting about the same thing and how Jesus had been beaten for us!! Following the painting we used an illustration that all the kids enjoyed where we used paper and tore the paper only once and made a cross and told them the story of the cross another way. Today was so special because it was a big push to share the gospel and have the Holy Spirit work in these kids lives.

Thank you all for your prayers it’s really important to pray and because of prayer this week has gone really well!! It’s all because of God and His power not because of anything we’ve done!
