December 11, 2022 Worship Service: Joy in the Darkness

Joy is the rhythm of heaven. That is the source of our strength. It energizes us, encourages us, and defies our small-minded and fearful need to make everything functional and sensible.

Heaven does not need us. But it wants us and breaks into our world with invitations to its happiness.

Depression and sadness are real, but not innately virtuous. Resist the pathological desire to make sadness “deep” and happiness shallow. Joy is deep. It is an eternal virtue, being a facet of God’s inner state.
